Elizabeth Shaw Smith

I’ve known Roy since we were graduate students in English at BYU in the early 1970s.  I taught Freshman English out of a textbook he co-authored.  He was a mentor for me when I was an editor at BYU Press.  Before he left for Romania on his Fulbright, he spent a month or two at UCLA.  I was working in Los Angeles and we attended 2 or 3 days of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s “Nicholas Nickleby” there together.  We corresponded after he went to Romania and a bit after he moved to Fairbanks.  He was kind, smart, sensitive, helpful, fun, and a valued friend.  I am sorry he is gone.
