I can not begin to tell you how sad and shocked I was to hear about Roy's death - what a loss.
The first time I met Roy, I had him for English (it was either 111, 211 or 213 - can't remember back that far) my first semester back at college after almost a 10 year hiatus. I never really liked English, but Roy changed my entire viewpoint.
He made it so fun and just seeing the passion he had not only for the subject, but for teaching, was what turned me totally around. That was back in 1985 and I still remember some of the exact class discussions that we had and have relayed this story to my kids and my student workers when they comment about not liking a certain subject.
