John Reinhard

I just received word of Roy's passing, and that makes this a sad day.  What I remember most about him is the intelligence and the passion and the way he loved to laugh.  Once, when he walked into the English deparment, he came with about five feet of toilet paper stretching behind him like a tail.  Most folks were laughing too hard to say anything, and I was fearful this was the department's new fax machine.  When he finally discovered the source of the laughter, he laughed, too, as only Roy could, and then he went on with his life, which should've lasted so much longer.  He was my friend, and more devoted to his students than anyone I've ever known.  What a good, good man. My best to all, John Reinhard
